Oleksandr Lvovich Vratarev (born June 29, 1936, Vinnitsa, Ukrainian SSR) is a Soviet and Ukrainian poet, playwright, translator, and songwriter. He became famous in the 1960s for his poems for pop songs from plays and cartoons. He was friends with composer Leonid Verbitsky for about 20 years, their song "There Goes a Girl" (1965) performed by Yulia Pashkovskaya became a world-famous hit, and the song "Duel" (1969), known as "Natalie's Romance", became a favorite of many generations. Songs based on his poems were sung by Yuri Gulyaev, Maya Kristalinskaya, Tamara Miansarova, Iosif Kobzon, Yuri Bogatikov, Sofia Rotaru, Lyudmila Gurchenko, Nikolai Karachentsov, Tamara Gverdtsiteli, Valery Leontyev, Alexander Malinin, Ani Lorak and many others. Now Vratarev's songs are in the repertoire of popular Ukrainian performers. The uniqueness of Vratarev's work is that his songs do not become outdated, but remain relevant.
