Bastian Stein (* 1983 in Heidelberg) is a German jazz musician and composer. He plays trumpet and flugelhorn. Stein was born into a family of artists and musicians. He moved to Vienna with his mother at the age of five. At the age of ten, Stein was allowed to attend the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as a guest student. At the age of fifteen he began studying the trumpet there. He then studied at the Jazz Conservatory in Amsterdam. In 2005, as a winner of the Hans Koller Prize, he received a scholarship to New York, which was followed by three to four years of private lessons with Ack van Rooyen and the renowned Swedish trumpet teacher Bo Nilsson from 2006 onwards.
