Lev Alexandrovich Schwarz (Russian: Лев Александрович Шварц; November 17, 1898 in Tashkent – February 24, 1962 in Moscow) was a Soviet composer, known primarily for his film scores. Lev Schwarz graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1927, where he attended Konstantin Igumnov's class and studied fortepiano. His composition teacher was Georgi Catoire. For the next three years, Schwarz taught fortepiano at the Gnessin Music Technical School, which later became part of the Gnessin Institute in Moscow. From 1931 to 1933, he was concertmaster at the All-Soviet Radio Committee, where he also distinguished himself as a pianist. Schwarz wrote pieces for over 40 live-action, animated, and documentary films, as well as stage recordings. He collaborated with almost all of the major film studios in the Soviet Union. He also composed various instrumental and vocal works, such as suites, cantatas, and marches, as well as children's songs and estrada songs. He also composed chamber music pieces based on Central Asian folklore to accompany theater performances.
