Maria Petrovna Codreanu (Romanian: Maria Codreanu; born August 23, 1948, Truşeni village, Straşeni district, Moldavian SSR, USSR) is a Soviet Moldovan and Russian singer, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1999), People's Artist of Moldova (2008). She graduated from music school in violin and piano, but continued to sing. The young soloist was noticed by Alexander Bronevitsky, who performed in Chisinau with the Druzhba ensemble, and invited her to an audition. Codreanu went to Leningrad and since 1965 began performing in the Druzhba ensemble at the Lenconcert. In 1967, Maria Codreanu took part in the 1st International Pop Song Contest in Sochi, where she won first place, performing the song "Tenderness" by Alexandra Pakhmutova.
