Onegin Yusif oglu Gadzhikasimov (Azerbaijani: Onegin Yusif oğlu Hacıqasımov; June 4, 1937, Baku – June 30, 2002, Reutov, Moscow Oblast) was a Soviet poet and songwriter, author of lyrics for many popular songs, and later hieroschemamonk Simon. A documentary film, A Temple for Onegin. After the Glory, was made about Onegin. Onegin Gadzhikasimov graduated from the Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow, and later became one of the most popular poets and songwriters in the USSR in the 1960s–1980s. Songs based on his lyrics were written by famous composers and performed by popular singers. Onegin Gadzhikasimov is also known as a translator of many foreign songs into Russian.
