René Joly is a French singer, composer, and producer. Born October 7, 1946, in Calais, he began his career as a drummer for the rock bands Les Dauphins, Les Coasters (renamed Les Costers to avoid confusion with the American band of the same name), and then Les Masters. After the band's breakup in 1968, he began studying piano and guitar and writing songs. He is best known as the author and performer of the song Chimène (1969). He was also a member of the original lineup of the band Starmania.
