Samra (then working under the stage name Samra45) first came to attention on the German rap scene in the autumn of 2016 as a guest performer on Alpa Gun's album Zurück zur Straße, particularly on the track "Chaos", in which his dissing of 187 Strassenbande caused a stir. Later in the year, Samra was a featured artist on Mert's track "U21". The following year, Samra was reported to have been repeatedly approached by Farid Bang expressing interest in signing the rapper on his label, Banger Musik, but Samra refused. In 2017, Bushido signed Samra to his label, EGJ. The same month, it was reported that Samra left Bushido's label. In March 2019, Samra together with Capital Bra reached number one in Germany with the song "Wir ticken".
