Franz Liszt was a Hungarian composer, pianist, conductor, and teacher, born in Doborján in the Kingdom of Hungary. A central figure of Romanticism, he became famous for virtuoso piano performance and for the public craze called “Lisztomania,” while musicians still learn from his brilliant legacy.
His music belongs to classical music and the Romantic era. Liszt is known for the 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies and for large-scale transcriptions, including Lacrimosa aus Mozart's Requiem, S.550 No. 2. His Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 4 in E-flat major remain valued examples of national color and concert style, often chosen as sheet music for piano.
