Leontyev Valery Yakovlevich (born 19.03.1949, the Republic of Komi, RSFSR) is a Russian (formerly Soviet) pop singer, who became the People's Artist of the Russian Federation in 1996. He is a megastar and an idol of many Russian listeners; for his creative activity he has recorded more than thirty albums, some have been sold in millions of copies. The first solo performance of V. Leontiev occurred in 1971 in Vorkuta, where he took part in the regional festival “Song-71”. Climbing the big stage for the singer began after he moved to the Gorky Philharmonic in 1979, at the same time he was awarded the first prize at the All-Union Competition.
