Sting, born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, is an English musician known first as the frontman, songwriter, and bassist of The Police, and later for a solo career from the mid-1980s. Fans often learn his music through songs such as “Fields of Gold,” “Desert Rose,” and “Fragile.”

His style joins rock, pop-rock, new wave, jazz-rock, soft rock, adult contemporary, and world music. Sting is linked with an advanced approach to songwriting, and his catalog lets pianists and vocalists play expressive, melodic material with broad stylistic color.

Among his achievements are multiple Grammy awards, The Police’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2003, the CBE title, and the Polar Music Prize in 2017. Many arrangements suit advanced level practice.
