Mark Bernes was a Soviet singer and film actor from the USSR, known for his role and musical performances in Soviet cinema and on stage. For flute, his songs remain expressive and memorable. He became one of the most popular Soviet pop artists of the 1950s–1960s.

His style combines popular song, Soviet popular song, and film song. He is known for “Dark Is the Night,” “I Love You, Life,” and “Where Does the Motherland Begin,” with patriotic and lyrical repertoire.

He was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the RSFSR in 1965. His last recording was “Where Does the Motherland Begin,” and his songs entered the Soviet repertoire.
