Aneka (whose real name is Mary Sandeman) was born on November 20, 1948. She only released two albums in her entire career, a self-titled album in 1981 and Japanese Boy in the same year. The biggest hit of her career was the song “Japanese Boy”, which reached number one on Billboard. Other songs were released as singles, but were not successful in the US, only in the UK. After the end of the promotion of her CD, two more random songs were released in her career, “Heart To Beat” in 1983 and “Rose, Rose I Love You” in 1984. Soon after, Mary left her record company to return to singing traditional Scottish songs (which she already did before becoming known worldwide as Aneka).
