Kino is a cult Soviet/Russian band formed in Leningrad in the early 1980s around Viktor Tsoi, its singer, guitarist, and main songwriter. Rising from the local underground, the group became a symbol of late Soviet youth culture. Many listeners still learn its songs by ear, drawn to their direct words and strong mood.
Their sound unites rock, post-punk, new wave, and alternative rock. Early track “Aluminum Cucumbers” belongs to the 1982 album 45, while “In Our Eyes” appears on the 1988 release Blood Type. The phrase “Watch yourself, be careful” is closely linked with that album. For fans of piano, these songs remain distinctive and memorable.
Kino’s peak came in the mid and late 1980s, especially during perestroika, when Blood Type became one of the key Soviet rock albums. The band’s music stayed influential through reissues, films, covers, and digital platforms.
