Nora Brown is an American musician known for performing traditional folk music, primarily in the Southern Appalachian folk genre. She is a virtuoso clawhammer banjo player and sings ballads rooted in the traditions of Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. Nora Brown grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and began studying music at the age of six under the tutelage of local musician Shlomo Pestkow, who instilled in her a love of traditional folk. She continued her education by traveling throughout the Appalachian region, learning directly from old masters such as Lee Sexton and George Gibson.
