Sofia Petrovna Preobrazhenskaya (September 14 [27], 1904, St. Petersburg, Russian Empire - July 21, 1966, Leningrad, USSR) - Soviet opera and chamber singer (mezzo-soprano), teacher, professor at the Leningrad Conservatory, soloist of the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theater them. S. M. Kirov (1926-1959). People's Artist of the USSR (1955). Winner of two Stalin Prizes (1946, 1951). One of the outstanding Soviet singers. Her voice was distinguished by exceptional power, extreme emotionality and expressiveness. During the years of the siege of Leningrad, she was constantly in the city, refusing to be evacuated.
