Aram Khachaturian was a Soviet Armenian composer and conductor, born in Tiflis in 1903 into an Armenian family. He became one of the leading 20th-century figures in the USSR and abroad. Many musicians learn his music through vivid concert and stage works.
His art belongs to classical music, orchestral writing, ballet, and incidental scores. Khachaturian fused Western symphonic forms with Armenian and Caucasian folk elements. His style is marked by rhythmic energy and rich color, often suited to advanced performance.
Among his best-known works are Sabre Dance from Gayane, the Waltz from Masquerade, and Andantino from Children’s Album. UNESCO lists him among renowned 20th-century composers. These pieces appear often in concert life and in teaching at advanced level.
