Aram Khachaturian was a Soviet Armenian composer, born in Tiflis, now Tbilisi, in 1903. He came to professional composition relatively late and grew into a master of 20th-century classical music. His legacy includes Gayane, Spartacus, the Piano Concerto, and the well-known Andantino.
His style joins orchestral color, ballet energy, and film and theatre expression. Khachaturian used Armenian, Georgian, and wider Caucasian folk intonations in symphonic forms, helping listeners learn this vivid musical language. The famous Sabre Dance and the Masquerade Waltz remain concert favorites at master level.
