ABBA is a legendary Swedish group whose name comes from the initials Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni‑Frid. Before the famous short name was adopted, early releases appeared as Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni‑Frid. The band reached an international breakthrough after winning Eurovision 1974 with “Waterloo.” ABBA became widely known for songs such as “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Fernando,” and “The Winner Takes It All.” Their peak popularity lasted from the mid‑1970s to the early 1980s, and interest returned strongly from the 1990s thanks to “Mamma Mia!”. Many listeners still learn their melodies by ear and by score.

ABBA is associated with pop, europop, and disco, combining memorable hooks with polished songwriting. Among the group’s best known albums are “ABBA” (1975), “Arrival” (1976), “The Album” (1977), “Voulez‑Vous” (1979), “Super Trouper” (1980), and “The Visitors” (1981). “People Need Love” was the first single of the future ABBA, recorded in March 1972 and later included on “Ring Ring.” “Thank You For The Music” was recorded for “The Album,” while “Slipping Through My Fingers” appeared on “The Visitors.” These songs are especially appealing for flute performance.

ABBA is one of the most commercially successful groups in history, with more than 150–200 million records sold worldwide. The band was also the first act from continental Europe to achieve lasting success in the English‑language charts of the USA and the UK. In 2010, ABBA entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their music continues to inspire fans who want to play timeless pop classics, and flute sheet music remains in steady demand.
