ABBA is a Swedish group whose name comes from the initials of Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Anni‑Frid. Before the well-known name was adopted, early releases appeared as Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid. The group reached its international breakthrough after winning Eurovision 1974 with “Waterloo.” ABBA became one of the most commercially successful acts in music history, with more than 150–200 million records sold worldwide. Their peak popularity came from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, followed by a major revival from the 1990s onward. Many listeners still learn ABBA through famous songs and stage adaptations.

Their music brings together pop, europop, and disco, creating a bright and lasting sound. ABBA is known for hits such as “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia,” “Fernando,” and “The Winner Takes It All,” as well as landmark albums including ABBA, Arrival, The Album, Voulez-Vous, Super Trouper, and The Visitors. “People Need Love,” recorded in March 1972, became the first single of the future ABBA and later appeared on Ring Ring. “Thank You For The Music” was recorded for The Album, while “Slipping Through My Fingers” was released on The Visitors with lead vocals by Agnetha Fältskog. Their songs continue to inspire those who play violin.

ABBA also achieved lasting recognition as the first group from continental Europe to gain sustained success in the English-language charts of the US and UK. In 2010, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their cultural influence remains strong through tribute shows, fan clubs, and the ongoing success of the “Mamma Mia!” musical and film franchise. For many musicians, violin sheet music opens a practical way to explore these classics.
