Ilya Alekseevich Shatrov was a Russian military musician, composer, and bandmaster. He is best known for the waltz “On the Hills of Manchuria,” first created in 1906 and dedicated to fallen comrades after the Russo-Japanese War. His music is useful for those who want to learn expressive melodies on guitar.

His style includes military music, romance, waltz, and secular instrumental music. Shatrov also wrote the waltzes “Dachnye Mechty,” “Autumn Has Come,” and “Blue Night in Port Arthur.” The piece became widely known across the Russian Empire and later gained lasting popularity.
