Tatar folk music - Tatar musical folklore. The first recordings of Tatar folk melodies are presented in the "Asian Music Journal" (Astrakhan, 1817), the later ones - in the works of A. F. Rittich, V. A. Moshkov, at the beginning of the 20th century - in the foreign publications of R. Lakh, G. Shuneman. The systematic collection and systematization of Tatar folk music began only at the end of the 19th century. Mostly Tatar folk music of the last centuries has been recorded and most studied. Some forms of Tatar professional music of the oral tradition have not yet been singled out as independent and are considered in the mainstream of folk traditions.
