Yuri Antonov, born on 19 February 1945 in Tashkent, is one of the best-known melodic voices of Soviet and Russian pop culture. A key composer and performer since the 1970s, he remains widely recognized, and many listeners still learn his songs today.
His music unites Soviet estrada, pop, soft-rock, and singer-songwriter traditions. Antonov is known for hits such as “From Sorrow to Joy,” “Here’s How It Happens,” and “Twenty Years Later.” These works are often arranged as piano sheet music, while their lyrical style helps musicians play with expression.
Among his major achievements are nationwide success from the late 1970s, million-selling records, and the title of People’s Artist of Russia in 1997. He also wrote music for the 1981 film comedy “Take Care of Women,” where “Twenty Years Later” appeared.
